Good Read | Lost and Found

Lost and Found: One Woman's Story of Losing Her Money and Finding Her Life by Geneen Roth is an eye-opening account of the author's journey through losing her entire life savings at the hand of Bernie Madoff. While the lessons she learned during her roller coaster to acceptance provide enough content for an entire book, perhaps the biggest takeaway is the underlying message to be more responsible and aware of our money habits.

Openly discussing the subject of money is perhaps just as uncomfortable as discussing our personal eating habits and weight. Greneen Roth fully recognizes the similarities between the two situations and encourages the reader to also become aware of these two overlapping habits. While the themes of overindulgence, binging, and helplessness may be indicative of our society as a whole for both food and money, Lost and Found comforts the reader to feel they are not alone in these struggles; either struggle must be approached in pieces to achieve long term success.

I could not help but relate to many points in this story - since college graduation, my personal finances have been on their own roller coaster, highs and lows following life path altering decisions. Geneen Roth’s story truly made me realize that I am long overdue in paying much more attention to my income flows. Lost and Found is a quick, valuable source of information and collection of lessons for anyone who feels they are ready to take control of their finances, no matter how sensitive the topic may be.

  1. I loved listening to Women, Food, & God and yes....my finances are on a roller coaster as well (left my cushy corp job last May to pursue my own thing as a life coach) so I am going to have to check this out. Thanks for the recommendation!
